After the expulsion of the inhabitants after the Second World War, a number of people from Velké Karlovice in the Valaš region came to Velká Úpa. They chose chalets in Výsluní and Hofer's Chalets. With the house they took over a large plot of land with a beautiful view of the countryside. Perhaps because the view reminded them of the nearby Portáš border in Karlovice, and the word Portáš was said to mean the guardian of the mountains, they renamed Hofer´s Portášova bouda, or Portášky for short. This is how one of the strangest names in the Krkonoše was created.
